Stanek Gallery presents the resonant works of Martin Campos, Danny McCaw, Michael Quadland, and Louise Strawbridge.

The figures of Martin Campos’s pastel drawings emerge from a tangle of rich colors and bold mark-making. It is easy to imagine the feel of buttery pastel as it slides across the textured surface of the paper, forming colorful shapes in space. Campos’s intuitive process of creation guides his compositions, which are full of mystery and surprise.

Danny McCaw creates sculpted forms on the flat surfaces of canvas and board. Thickly applied oil paint provides literal depth to McCaw’s works, while his command of color finishes the thought, creating intriguing compositions of figures in space, radiant with human emotion.

Michael Quadland’s textured bronzes remind us of the organic nature of his avian subjects. Combining cold machined hardware, a signature of his sculptural works, with natural shapes that almost appear soft, Quadland’s works are full of contradiction, communicating stoicism and serenity with a touch of whimsy.

The mixed media works of Louise Strawbridge exemplify the artist’s mastery of composition. Strawbridge’s stitching provides depth and dimension to her linear, flat surfaces. Small touches of red pack a punch, and washes of blue disrupt the monochromatic works, converting peaceful marks into a strong statement.
