Reimagining the Figure
Jacqueline Boyd, Martin Campos, Stanka Kordic
Left to right: Jacqueline Boyd, Shop and Plant in Blue, 2020. Oil on panel, 30 x 30 inches; Stanka Kordic, Sleep of Dreams, 2021.
Oil on cradled birch panel, 24 x 24inches; Martin Campos, Metirosos, 2020. Oil on panel, 36 x 36 inches.
Stanek Gallery is proud to present three artists whose unique approach to depicting the figure in their work reflects the dynamic nature of the contemporary human experience.
Jacqueline Boyd's paintings are the embodiment of memory, with ghostly figures hidden amongst disrupted interiors. Martin Campos's figures emerge from a tangle of rich colors and bold mark-making, often confronting the viewer directly with an arresting star that is up for interpretation. In contrast, Stanka Kordic's paintings provide a sense of mystery and fragility, her figures appearing to pass through time and space.
With imagination and emotion at the core of creation, their works speak to the experiences of many, dealing with concepts of dreams and reality, past and present, and the inexorable passage of time.
