STANEK GALLERY PRESENTS NEW EXHIBIT “A LEAP OF FAITH” FEATURING WORK BY PENNSYLVANIA ACADEMY OF THE FINE ARTS ALUMNI KATHERINE STANEK, DEBORAH FINE, SHANE STRATTON, BRIAN BOUTWELL, JULIA LEVITINA, LAURA ADAM, ADAM VINSON, NICOLE MICHAUD, HOLLY TROSTLE AND JAMES MUNDIE “A LEAP OF FAITH” WILL RUN FROM JANUARY 22 – MARCH 27!
(Philadelphia, Pa) – January 4, 2016 – The next exhibit at Stanek Gallery is artistically symbolic of a “class reunion”, as 10 distinguished artists, all former students of the prestigious Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, will come together to present work during the gallery’s winter exhibition, “A Leap of Faith” beginning on January 22, 2016. Curated by Hilarie V. Hawley, an accomplished Philadelphia painter and curator of The Pennsylvania Academy Fellowship collection and Pennsylvania Trust Investment Management collection, the work featured in “A Leap of Faith” is a collection from an interesting and diverse group of artists and a fascinating visual testament to the Academy’s tagline, “We Make Artists”.
Hawley states, “ ’A Leap of Faith’ inspired by the act of believing in something intangible.”
“Hilarie and I know each other from our years at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and I respect her opinion,” says gallery owner, Katherine Stanek. “When selecting curators, we chose people with confidence and an aesthetic as distinctive as the art selected.”
This lineup of exhibiting artists will certainly not disappoint! Their unique voices have captured the attention of museums, universities and art centers as many have been invited to be exhibitors, speakers and artist in residence around the world including; Layfayette College and Rutgers University (Holly Trostle Brigham), Vermont Studio Center (Deborah Fine), Camac Art Centre, France and Eugeen van Mieghem Museum, Belgium (Julia Levitina), Pamukkale University, Turkey and AIR Italy (Katherine Stanek). Fulbright scholar and sculptor Shane Stratton whose residency invitations span three continents enjoys success abroad along with international artists James G. Mundie and Julia Levitina who have exhibited in London, Japan, Paris and Belgium respectively. And Adam Vinson's work is exhibited widely from coast to coast while having a strong presence in the competitive NYC art market.
All exhibiting artists have received prestigious and highly coveted recognitions including The Smithsonian Portrait Gallery (Adam Vinson), Pennsylvania Governor's Award (Laura Adams), the National Sculpture Society (Julia Levitina), the National Arts Award and Vermont Studio Center Fellowship (Deborah Fine) while The Pennsylvania Academy has recognized the excellent body of work of Brian Boutwell and Nicole Michaud with travel scholarships.
On the heels of their grand opening success and debut exhibit, “Inspirations”, Stanek Gallery maintains its commitment to reviving the Philadelphia art scene by creating opportunities that impact both the artists and the art collectors.
Stanek Gallery opened in November 2015 to the applause of Philadelphia Magazine who called it a “top place to visit” and the Philadelphia Inquirer who highlighted the opening as a new trend in the state of art galleries in Philadelphia.
